London [by D. Sidney] for Poole and Edwards 1827 First edition With Several Hundred Engravings in Wood. By the Rev. S. Barrow. 12mo. iv, 232, [4] pp. Bound in contemporary green roan, the title blocked in gilt on the front cover, the spine ruled with gilt fillets, plain endleaves, sprinkled edges. (Headcaps broken, upper joint cracked but firm, rubbed). With 4pp of advertisments at the end. The woodcuts are charming, though the printer inadvertently reversed the image of the barometer. Sir Richard Phillips used the pseudonym of the Rev. S. Barrow. Inscribed inside the front cover "For dear little Hastings, from his Papa, July 1828". The book was given by Major General Lord George Russell to his son Hastings (1819-1891) who became 12th Duke of Bedford in 1872. With Hasting Russell's bookplate.
