Edinburgh For Alexander Donaldson 1775 Engraved title and frontispiece portrait. 12mo. xii, 312 pp.Bound in contemporary marbled sheep, smooth spine divided into six gilt panels, lettered in the second on a red goatskin label, the others tooled with a medallion and sprigs, plain endleaves, yellow edges. (Joints slightly cracked and rubbed, upper headcap broken, corners worn). A little light foxing and soiling but a good copy. Shenstone's collected works were first published in London in 1764. In his preface to "Poems Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect" Burns called Shenstone "that celebrated poet whose devine elegies do honour to our language, our nation, and our species".
