Dudley, (William Second Earl of)

Catalogue of the Splendid Collection of Old Porcelain formed by the Right Honourable the Late Earl of Dudley

London [by Wm. Clowes & Sons] 1886 From the most Celebrated Cabinets which have been dispersed during the last forty years: which (by Order of the Executors) will be Sold by Auction, by Messrs. Christie, Manson & Woods, at their Great Rooms, 8 King Street, St. James's Square, on Friday, May 21, 1886, at one o'clock precisely. 21 mounted original photographs of vases and other pieces. 8vo. 20pp. Bound in the original printed boards, neatly rebacked with cloth (covers a little rubbed). This is one of a "limited number" of catalogues issued with photographs, "price half-a-guinea" each. It is priced throughout in manuscript with the names of some of the buyers and the original price paid by Lord Dudley included against a few of the entries. The 203 lots raised £40,856, though Dudley paid more for many of the lots than they realised in the sale (for example, lot 194, a pair of vases with covers and stands, cost him £6825 and they were sold for 2500 guineas).
