Contemporary tortoiseshell binding, the covers and spine affixed by borders of pierced gilt metal decorated with shells, flowers and ribbons and clasps decorated with a flower, marbled endleaves, gilt edges. Contained within a modern full tan goatskin drop-over box, lined with felt and lettered on two black goatskin labels. A fine example of a tortoiseshell binding in excellent condition. The Swiss had a particular liking for exotic materials, such as tortoiseshell and shagreen, along with fancy fixings. From the Fürstenberg Library at Donaueschingen, with ink stamps.
