[Seaweed]

An album containing seven mounted samples of seaweed and a photograph of a coastal scene

[86 x 126 x 17 mm]. Bound from the backbone of a whale cast up on Long Beach California (according to an accompanying label), with a red silk tie at the spine. Contained within a blue cloth drop-over box, the spine lettered in gilt. This extraordinary specimen of bookbinding probably dates from the turn of the last century when the Bolton Public Library put together a collection of bindings. This was recently released and should really be returned to California.
