[221 x 132 x 46 mm]. xii, 326 pp; viii, 331 pp. Bound in contemporary quarter red goatskin, marbled paper sides, the spines divided into five panels with gilt compartments, lettered in the second and numbered in the fourth, marbled paper endleaves, lightly sprinkled edges. (Slightly rubbed). With the half titles, stating these to be volumes 438 and 439 in Baudry's "Collection of Ancient and Modern British Authors". Occasional foxing, and with an early ink signature on the first page of text in both volumes. The bindings are fine and handsome, and vol.1 has the label of "Devarenne, Libraire". Thackeray was virtually unknown in France prior to the publication of this Paris edition. No copy is recorded on COPAC or the British Library Public Catalogue.
