[8]ff, 213, [11] pp. Bound in contemporary mottled calf, the spine divided into five panels, lettered in gilt in the second panel, the other panels filled with gilt pointille tools, red sprinkled edges. (Small holes at the head and foot of the upper joint, slightly rubbed). Wing U.162. Madan 2532. Sweeney 5333. Slightly browned, but a very good copy in an attractive and well preserved binding. This unfinished Chronology was Ussher's last work, and is a supplement or corrected summary of the "Annales" (1650-54). Ussher died in March 1656, and the overworked Barlow undertook to present the manuscript in its proper form - though he had to apologise for it's preposterous arrangement. On pp.44-5 is the calculation resulting in 4004 B.C. as the date of Creation. There is also a list of Ussher's published works in Latin and English. Inscribed at the head of the title: "Ex libris Abrahami Girard 1662". [Bound with:] "Jacobi Usseri Armachani De Romanae Ecclesiae" Symbolo Apostolico Vetere Allisque Fidei formulis, tum ab Occidentalibus tum ab Orientalibus, in prima Catechesi & Baptismo proponi solitis, Diatriba.... This appears to be a reprint of the 1647 London edition (Sweeney 5338), without the portrait, and intended as an Appendix to the above, with which it is usually bound.
