First Edition. 4to. xxx, 190, [1] pp. Bound in contemporary half brown roan, decorated paper sides, smooth spine divided into six panels by gilt pallets, lettered in the second on a green goatskin label, the others gilt tooled with alternating large flower and sun-burst tool, yellow edges, plain endleaves. (One corner scraped and very slightly rubbed). Not in the BLPC or NUC. With the half-title and final errata leaf. Occasional very light browning or spotting, including the title, but a fine copy in a well preserved and attractive binding. An elegantly printed account of the attempt to rid the country around Rome of locusts between 1807 and 1815. Divided into three parts, the first giving the narrative of what appears to have been a not wholly successful attempt at controlling the pests, charting the beginnings of the locust blight in the area, with the details of the setting up of the special commission and their actions between 1807 and 1815. The second and third parts give details of the laws and ordinances relating to locusts and include transcriptions of some of the documents. There is also an appendix on the eyesight of locusts as well as a final index. With the Corsini library stamp and blind stamp on the title-page.
