ANDREI VLADIMIROVICH
(Grand Duke,1879-1956, Russian Major-General, Grandson of Tsar Alexander II, Cousin of Nicholas II) Autograph Letter Signed 'André' to Margot Astafieva
(d.1976) and her husband Slava Astafiev (d.1976), in English, saying “Thank you and Slava for your so nice Xmas present and wishes I was very touched ... Best wishes for Xmas”, on folding card with a coaching scene, 4 sides 4” x 3”, no place, 20th December 1949 Andrei Vladimirovich married the great Russian ballerina Matilda Kschessinska , (1872-1971), in 1921, who had been for a while the mistress of Nicholas II. Slava was the son of her brother, the actor Joseph Kschessinsky, 1868-1942, who stayed in Russia. Slava’s mother was another famous ballerina, Serafima Alexandrovna Astafieva, 1876-1934. She opened her school at 152 Kings Road, Chelsea, in 1916, and her son married Margot Luck, one of her pupils.
