(Marie Effie née Wilton, 1839-1921, Actress, Wife of Sir Squire Bancroft) AQS
“Mark not what I do on Sundays, but watch me through the week”, pencilled note ‘written for the A.V. Bazar’, 1 side 8vo., 31 Cavendish Square, 10th October 1878 Lady Bancroft was a child actress in the provinces, and came to the Strand Theatre, London, in 1856. She married (Sir) Squire Bancroft in 1867, after which she joined his memorable management of the old Prince of Wales Theatre. She wrote ‘Mr and Mrs Bancroft on and off the Stage’, 1888.
