thanking him for his “kind letter but next time you address me more formally than of old I think I shall waylay you and when we encounter it shall be to separate only after the smashing of one or the other of our eyeglasses”, 2 sides 8vo., 18 Berkeley Square, 3rd January 1899 Bancroft was manager of the old Prince of Wales and Haymarket theatres for twenty years, responsible for the revival of stage drama. He devoted much time to “readings” for hospitals throughout the country, and raised £20,000.
