saying he is glad to hear of the forthcoming “Exhibition in London ... of Austrian National Arts and Crafts”, he has “often had the pleasure of visiting your varied and delightful county ... It is pleasant to be able to recall ... that on no occasion ... have Austrian and British troops found themselves opposed on the field of battle”, and remembering the pleasure of being “an interested witness of the operations of the Imperial and Royal Army in Bohemia, Tyrol and elsewhere”, 1 side 4to, 2 The Abbey Garden, Westminster, 7th April 1906 The writer was a grandson of Arnold of Rugby and was adopted by the statesman W.E. Forster, Arnold’s son-in-law. He was Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty, 1900-1903, and Secretary for War 1903-1906. Among his many books are ‘How to Solve the Irish Land Question’, ‘Letters on Socialism’, 1907, and ‘English Socialism of Today’, 1908. Ernst was the London Correspondent of the ‘Neues Wiener Tagblatt’, and was collecting statements from public figures for quoting in the journal. Ernst returned to medicine in 1909, but maintained a life-long interest in international affairs.
