(HSH Edmund, 1826-1914, Hungarian Magnate and Governor) Autograph Letter Signed in English to 'My dear Brassey',

(Thomas, 1836-1918, Lord of the Admiralty, from 1886 1st Baron), telling him of “a   quite   new & most ingenious invention of a boat lowering apparatus ... the model ... was shown me by the patentee Mr W. Ward a ship owner from Sunderland and who brought a ... recommendation from Captain Cecil Johnson, commander of the Coast Guard at Sunderland”, he encloses Mr Ward’s agent’s card [not present] for a demonstration of the working model, it appears “simple ... easily adaptable ... & cheap, ... not the least of its recommendations”, and has been “already taken up by the P. & O. and some other St. Navigation Companies”, monogram with coronet, 3 sides 8vo. black edged, 24 Dover Street, 29th June 1879, Batthyány’s father was a diplomat in London. He himself went to Beaumont and Eton, ‘the first foreigner and the first R.C.’ (Who’s Who) where he was ‘in the boats’.
