The DNB entry on William Danby 1752 - 1833 describes him as a miscellaneous writer who was High Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1783. Southey on a tour in 1829 says ‘ the most interesting person whom I saw during this expedition was Mr Danby of Swinton Park, a man of very large fortune, and now very old’.
