Original blind stamped cloth, spines slightly faded and frayed, boards of Vol 1 marked. Slightly shaken. DNB. Knowles was born in Cork in 1784. His father was a first cousin of Sheridan, hence his name. He was befriended by Hazlitt who introduced him to Coleridge & Lamb. Hazlitt in his Spirit of The Age refers to Knowles as the first tragic writer of his time.
