BYRON, Anna Isabella Noel, Lady.

Autograph Letter.

Letter 7.25ins x 9ins folded. Addressed to J.B. Sale, Esq of 18 St Mary Abbots’ Terrace, Kensington. Dated Jan 28th (1829) No. 4 New Norfolk Pl. and postmarked Jan 29th 1829. Written in the third person “ Lady Noel Byron presents her Compliments to Mr Sale and assures him that nothing but a severe cold which has confined her to the house........ She has every reason to believe that Miss Evans will justify his recommendation - Before Lady Noel Byron leaves Town she will certainly have the pleasure of calling upon Miss Sale. Tipped on to the letter is a newspaper cutting announcing Lady Noel Byron’s arrival at the London Hotel, Albemarle St to visit her daughter, who was safely delivered of a son. This is dated May 12th 1836 in another hand. In this same hand is a note of Lord and Lady Byron’s marriage and separation. There is a small tear on the letter front where a seal has been removed. This does not affect the text. All folds have been reinforced. Lady Byron had been touring Europe with her daughter Ada and a governess from 1826 until December 1828 when they returned to England. Lady Byron did not return to her house near Canterbury but moved to a large villa at Hanger Hill in Ealing.
