THOMSON (James):
THE SEASONS.
London: for James Wallis 1805. First Bewick illustrated edition. James Wallis produced this ThomasBewick illustrated edition of Thomson in three sizes. The present example (in a format apparently unknown to Hugo) represents the smallest of these, but shares the "remarkably fine impressions of the cuts" that Hugo associates with the largest copies. The life of Thomson given as an introduction would appear to be that of Samuel Johnson. Foolscap 8vo. [4],(xxiv),(286),[vi]pp. Title-page design and nine woodcut plates by Bewick. Bound in recent marbled boards, with leather label; upper corners slightly bruised; occasional slight soiling and a few minor marks, but a very good copy. Hugo 203-204 - noting the royal and demy 8vo issues only.
