London : Jones & Co., 1827. A highly attractive antique print of the early industrial landscape - locks, bridge, tunnel, smoking chimneys and in the foreground two handsome Pickford's barges. Engraved by Frederick James Havell (1801-1840) from an original pencil and water-colour drawing (now in the Museum of London) by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of ninettenth-century London. Originally produced for Shepherd's part-work series "Metropolitan Improvements; or London in the Nineteenth Century" (London : 1827-1830). Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 106 x 148mm (approx. 4-1/8" x 5-7/8"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 154/024.
