[NANI.]

Versi Epitalamici ai nobilissimi sposi Lorenzo Sangiantoffetti e Lucrezia Nani ...[Edited by Giuseppe Greatti].

Padua, nella Stamperia del Seminario, 1792. Folio (398 x 280 mm.), pp. [254] unnumbered (including pp. 2 blank); a very good, uncut copy, printed on thick paper and bound in contemporary grey blue boards, rebacked. A fine, austere neo-classical publication celebrating the wedding of Lucrezia Nani, daughter of Admiral Jacobo Nani, of Nani Museum fame. There are some seventy-eight literary contributions (poems, sonnets, plays) by well wishers, among them Saverio Bettinelli, Daniele Francesconi, Giovanni Luigi Mingarelli, Giuseppe Fossati, Giuseppe da Riva, Giambattista Giovio di Como, Giuseppe Greatti, Stefano Arteaga etc. Some of the contributions touch on the achievements of the Nani family, especially Jacopo Nani (1725-97), father of the bride, who served as Supreme Commander of the Venetian fleet and was also one of the leading Venetian collectors, adding considerably to the Nani Museum created by his brother Bernardo. Jacobo's interest was particularly focused on oriental manuscripts and there are a number of contributions here by scholars employed by him in the cataloguing of his collection. There are verses by Simone Assemani in Syrian and Arabic, by Pietro Simone Lourdet in Armenian, by Antonio Tadini in Hebrew, and by Bernardo Cecchetti in Greek. The volume finishes with a Latin epigram in Iambic verse by Melchiore Cesarotti, translator of Homer and Ossian, which is typeset in a way reminiscent of antique inscriptions.Pinto, Nuptalia, 1916; no copy in RLIN or OCLC.
