Rare guide book to the classical ruins of Pozzuoli and the many Roman remains dotted along the coast north and south of Naples, also incorporating the islands of Capri and Ischia. The work appeared originally in 1709, and again in 1725 and 1727; any of these early editions are uncommon.There is a chapter devoted to Mount Vesuvius and the Roman villas at its foot. Pompeii is singled out and various theories discussed about its disappearance but no word of any Roman remains; excavations only started in the 1740s.Borroni 7734/2; Fossati Bellani III, 3875; Cicognara 4319 (1751 edition); RLIN locates only one copy (Metropolitan Museum, New York), no copy in OCLC.
