[VALADIER, Giuseppe.]

Raccolta di diverse invenzioni di No. 24 fabbriche contenenti Chiese, Ospedali, Palazzi, Casini di Campagna ed altre. Incise a bulino in No. 24 tavole con le loro respettive piante e spaccati.

Rome, presso Agapito Franzetti, [1796]. 1796 4to, engraved throughout: title-page with allegorical vignette of 'Architecture', and 24 plates after Giuseppe Valadier (8) and Citeroni (16); some marginal dust-soiling and faint spotting but a very good copy, bound in modern marbled boards. Only edition of a rare architectural pattern book containing the first published designs by Giuseppe Valadier (1762-1839), one of the most influential neo-classical architects in Italy.
The plates - front elevation, section and a plan - show Valadier designs for three villas, among them one in a triangular shape, a pavilion for a villa, again in triangular shape, a church and a circular country chapel, a hospital with inbuilt church, and an observatory with 9 storey tower. Valadier's designs are interspersed with those by Citeroni whose designs include a Bank, a hospital, a coffee house, several villas and palazzi, a vista arch, and a free standing billiards pavilion, there is also one plate showing a vase on a pedestal for garden ornament. For the publication date of Raccolta di diverse invenzioni see Paolo Marconi, Giuseppe Valadier, (Rome 1964), p. 108/9.
Not in RIBA, Early Printed Books; not in Berlin Kat.; RLIN locates 3 copies: CCA, Columbia and Getty; OCLC adds Yale and Oberlin College.
