DONGHI, Daniele.

Progetto di teatro notturno e diurno con annesso salone e dipendenze ad uso del municipio di Torino.

Turin, Camilla & Bertolero, 1888. Folio, pp. 24 (including printed wrappers), with 8 litho plates (2 folding); recent boards with front cover of original wrappers (repaired and dampstained) bound in. First edition of the earliest theatre project by Daniele Donghi (1861-1938), an architect who successfully built a theatre in Varallo (1901) and Rovigo (1904) and is best known as an early user of re-enforced concrete. He most famously used this new material in the re-erection of the campanile of St. Marco in Venice after the original structure had collapsed in 1902. Donighi's proposal for a new theatre in Turin, in the intended location of Piazza Venezia, includes a detailed examination of the building, a discussion of lightening, fire safety measures etc., accompanied with detailed plans (4), elevations (2), a section and a birds-eye-view. Donighi was convinced that the old Teatro Regio was in a dangerously run down state and should be replaced by a modern theatre. No copy in NUC, OCLC, or RLIN.
