[Italy, c. 1750]. Print, (515 x 1015 mm.), on three sheets, mounted on old paper within ink border,unsigned; two old repairs. A large, impressive print with a view of the entire Verona amphitheatre, which could seat 30,000 spectators and was used for gladiatorial combat and wild beasts hunts in Roman times. The print is topographical but also shows various architectural layers of the amphitheatre. Grand tourists can be seen wandering about, and in the arena a team of engineers or archaeologists are taking measurements and doing drawings. The external elevation consisting of three storeys is still standing in the west curve, so is a fragment of the three-story wall on the south west side.
