[Berlin, 1844.] 12mo, pp. 305-428, some light browning towards the end; bound in contemporary blue wrappers, ink title on front cover. First edition of the second biography of the great 19th century German architect Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841). Gustav Waagen was the first director of the recently founded Berlin picture gallery, a close friend of Schinkel's, and had travelled with him to Italy in 1824. The biography appeared originally in the Berliner Kalender auf das Jahr 1844; this may well be an offprint.
