Rare first edition of this instructive guide to the large scale manufacturing of coals fashioned from peat rather than from wood. Peat coals were cheaper to pruduce than charcoal and burned at a higher and more even temperature in the iron and copper smelting works of Saxony.The author discusses the best methods of peat cutting, the drying out process and the carbonisation of peat.
