Italian translation of Ludovico Doissin's Latin poem on the art of engraving, which looked at the usual past masters but also rates Pine's Horace, Oudry's Fontaine etc. De Carli not only translates Doissin's Latin, which in its purity and elegance had been compared by contemporaries to Virgil, but also furnishes comprehensive footnotes.
