Milan, nella Stamperia di Giuseppe Marelli, 1777. 8vo, pp. [22], 171, Latin and Italian title-pages, printed with engraved frontispiece and a few charming woodcut head- and tail-pieces in the text; uncut, clean and crisp copy in contemporary wrappers. Italian translation of Ludovico Doissin's Latin poem on the art of engraving, which looked at the usual past masters but also rates Pine's Horace, Oudry's Fontaine etc. De Carli not only translates Doissin's Latin, which in its purity and elegance had been compared by contemporaries to Virgil, but also furnishes comprehensive footnotes. The original Latin version, first published in 1752 and enlarged in 1757, is printed facing the Italian translation.Cicognara 977; Schlosser-Magnino, p. 669.
