The Tremellius-Junius version of the Old Testament, first published in four parts in 1575-9, with Beza’s translation of the New Testament. The Tremellius-Junius Bible was the most important Protestant translation of the 16th century, of fundamental importance to the spread of Calvinism and relied on heavily by the compilers of the King James version; this is apparently a revised edition, with an additional index of Greek and Hebrew names and of authors referred to in the notes.Sir Robert Shirley succeeded as fourth Baronet in 1646, in which year he also inherited a moiety of the Devereux estates after the death of his uncle, the Earl of Essex. After Charles I’s execution in 1648, he worked indefatigably for the Royalist cause and was imprisoned at least seven times before his early death in the Tower. Darlow & Moule 6212.
