TROLLOPE, Anthony.

The Duke's Children. A Novel ... in three Volumes ...

London: Chapman & Hall … 1880. 3 vols., 8vo., with the half-titles; a couple of tears, but without loss, some marks and stains, ‘Jackson’s Library, 34 Leigh St., Hampstead’ written on the first page of each volume and roughly erased; original dark blue-green silk-grained cloth, blocked in black and lettered in gold, recased with new endpapers, labels removed from front covers, spines stiffened at top and bottom. First edition of the final novel in the Palliser series. Less political than its predecessors, it tells the story of the Duke of Omnium, now a widower, struggling alone with the problems of his sons Lord Silverbridge (disastrously involved in cards and racing) and young Palliser (sent down from Cambridge), and their sister Mary, in love with a penniless commoner. Sadleir, Trollope 57.
