Barbarian in the garden, a collection of essays on Mediterranean history and culture, was inspired by Herbert’s first trip abroad, a visit to Italy and France in 1960.With a long signed presentation inscription in Polish on half title to the Canadian poet and an early translator of Zbigniew Herbert’s poems, Peter Dale Scott (b. 1929), dated from London, 1963.
