Madrid, Ediciones Oriente, 1930. 1930 8vo, pp. 207, with numerous illustrations of Mayan motifs in the text; paper lightly browned; uncut and unopened, in the striking original colour-illustrated wrappers by Puyol, slightly dust-soiled, bookplate inside front wrapper. First edition, rare: the first major work by the Guatemalan novelist. This study of early Mayan legends and folklore was much admired by Paul Valéry, who called it a collection of 'history-dream-poems'.
