St Petersburg, "Alkonost", 1921. 12mo, pp. 32, [4]; a very good copy in the original printed wrappers, slightly dust-soiled, rear cover creased, edges and spine chipped; booksellers stamp to inside of rear cover, and small ownership stamp of A. S. Rumiantsev. First edition in book form. This long poem was written in 1914 and first published in 1915 in the magazine Apollon. Akhmatova had been impressed by Blok's Italian Poems in Russkaia Mysl of 1914. Blok wrote to her in 1916, congratulating her and saying that after reading U samogo moria he 'felt again that he loved poetry'. Kilgour 6; Tarasenkov p. 25.
