Berlin, Suhrkamp, 1947. 8vo, pp. 63, some light browning as usual; in the original blue printed wrappers, edges chipped. First edition of this posthumous collection of poems, with a brief note about the poet's life by Hermann Kasack. Gertrud Kolmar (1894-1943) published three volumes of poetry in her lifetime: Gedichte, 1917; Preussische Wappen, 1934; and Die Frau und die Tiere, 1938; all are extremely rare. Her work was banned by the Nazis, and she was arrested in 1943 and died in one of the extermination camps. Welten was the first publication of her verse after her death. It was followed by a collected edition (Das lyrische Werk) in 1955.Wilpert/Gühring 4.
