PRICE, Richard.

An Essay on the Population of England from the Revolution to the Present Time. With an Appendix containing the remarks on the account of the population, trade, and resources of the kingdom, in Mr. Eden's letters to Lord Carlisle.

London, T. Cadell, 1780. Demy 8vo in fours, pp. [ii], vi, [1], 88; contemporary ownership inscription to the title page, some occasional pencil marginalia, small dampstain to the outer margin of some pages, otherwise a good copy bound without the final blank leaf in recent calf-backed marbled boards, compartments, contrasting morocco label, lettered gilt. Second separate edition. The present work first appeared in 1779 as part of The Doctrine of Annuities and Assurances, a book published by Price’s nephew, William Morgan. A separate edition of the essay was then published in 1780 with an additional appendix, refuting criticisms made by William Eden in his Fifth Letter to the Earl of Carlisle, which had suggested that Price’s conclusions were based on unsound and selective statistical analysis.Thomas, Stephens and Jones 104; not in Institute of Actuaries, Utrecht or International Insurance Library.
