Tall 8vo, pp. [ii], 26; initial and final pages a little dust-soiled; small marginal tears in first and last leaf repaired, small hole in lower margin of title; uncut in modern morocco-backed buckram boards, spine lettered gilt. First edition of the first instalment only, i.e. Bentham’s Draught itself, which was ‘one of the first signs of the conversion of Bentham towards more democratic views; and, in truth, we may readily trace in certain passages of this treatise the germs of many of those luminous ideas which, thirty years later, were to be developed by him so admirably in his criticisms of our own judicial system’ (Atkinson, p. 102).
