First edition, published in the wake of Napoleon’s coronation as Emperor. The work assesses sovereignty using the evidence of philosophers from Locke to Rousseau and Hobbes to Montesquieu. The anonymous author appears to have used a London publisher (the well-known firm of Dulau) so that he may express more freely his anti-Buonapartist opinions.Goldsmiths’ 18948.
