First edition: ‘le fruit des méditations d’un homme qui paraît très au fait de l’agriculture, des arts et du commerce’ (quoted in INED).Goyon de la Plombanie (d. 1808) was one of the editors of the Journal économique. Little is known of his life, but he was imprisoned in the Bastille in 1762 for having written a libellous pamphlet entitled Que ferons-nous des jésuites?. He wrote several works in which he denounced the insufficient supply of money and the increase in interest rates. Goyon proposed economic reforms and advocated measures to promote agriculture and population. In the present work, he suggests the establishment of a company with responsibility for the sale of corn, wine, and meat, in order to act as a stabilizer between years of dearth and plenty.
