A. Barriol, Hommage confraternel, Léon Walras’). Fourth edition, described as ‘l’édition définitive’ in the preface. Walras explains that this edition is essentially a consolidation of the rather ad hoc 1896 third edition, which was issued from the remaining copies of the 1889 second edition, omitting the section on the applied theory of money (since the subject was to be explored in the Études d’Économie politique appliqué) and including three additional appendices.Alfred Barriol was a student of Walras at Lausanne. Author of Théorie et pratique des opérations financières (1898), he would subsequently become the director of the ‘Institut des Finances et des Assurances’.Walker 199; see William Jaffé, The Correspondence of Léon Walras, no. 1674 for a letter mentioning Alfred Barriol.
