Rare first edition. This textbook for students was written at the end of Scialoja’s two-year tenure of the chair of political economy in Turin. ‘After two years he resigned this post and became minister of Ferdinand II, king of Naples, when the latter for a short time pretended to pose as a reformer and a liberal. After this, Scialoja was imprisoned by the reactionary Neapolitan governement and condemned to a long term of imprisonment; this sentence was commuted into exile in 1852 (Palgrave).
