Paris, Valade, 1773.8vo; pp. xvi, 224; [4], 282, [2]; some contemporary marginal staining to preliminary and final leaves; still a good copy in contemporary quarter calf and marbled boards, spine richly gilt in compartments, neatly restored. First collected edition of this interesting treatise on essences, essential oils, pomades, powders, perfumes including recipes for all types of cosmetics. The first edition of Toilette de Flore was published in 1771 and Laboratoire de Flore in 1772. Joseph Pierre Buc’hoz, born in Metz, was a physician and naturalist who at various times served as physician to the King of Poland, the brother of the King of France, and the Duke of Artois. He was the author of a large number of works on a wide variety of subjects, including numerous heavily illustrated botanical works.Rare: not in NUC; OCLC locates one copy only (University of Delaware), lacking the second work.
