This short obituary of Wittgenstein (1889–1951) was reprinted in Fann’s Ludwig Wittgenstein: the man and his philosophy (1967). ‘Getting to know Wittgenstein was one of the most exciting intellectual adventures of my life … His thought had an almost incredible degree of passionately intense penetration, to which I gave whole-hearted admiration’ (p. 298). However ‘at first [he] was in doubt as to whether he was a man of genius or a crank’ (p. 297). The obituary is written entirely in this vein, referring to his ideas and his activities but without more than a passing indication to his personality.Blackwell & Ruja C51.27.
