RUTHERFORD, Sir Ernest, James CHADWICK, and C.D. ELLIS.

Radiations from Radioactive Substances.

Cambridge, University Press, 1930. 8vo, pp. [xii], 588, with five photographic plates, and diagramsand tables in the text; a fine copy in the original green cloth, with gilt coat-of-arms of Queen's College, Cambridge, added on front cover and crest on spine. FIRST EDITION. This is the last in the series of books beginning with Radioactivity in 1904 and continuing with Radioactive substances and their Radiation of 1913. The latter work had been out of print for many years before this, and the War had intervened. In the meantime the literature had burgeoned, and Rutherord 'thought it desirable to confine this new work to an account of the radiations from active matter and their application to physical problems' (Preface). These are Rutherford's last words on the subject.
