Sechs flaschen wethheimerebittet sich d.19 May 1798 GoetheAn unrecorded autograph, written the day before Goethe travelled to Jena, to work intensively with Schiller - and where more wine was to be ordered (see the following item). Werthheimer, a wine from one of Germany's best vineyards, together with Johannisberger and Würzburger Stein, were especially esteemed by Goethe.Wine orders by Goethe are rare. The Sammlung Kippenberg, collected at the beginning of the century, when Goethe autographs were more available, lists only a facsimile of an 1807 wine order.Provenance: from the collection of the Frankfurt lawyer and historian Heinrich Euler (1813-85).
