FOUNTAIN, Paul.
The River Amazon from its sources to the sea.
London, Constable & Co., 1914. 8vo (225 x 150 mm), pp. xi, 321, [1], [2, advertisements], with 16 plates and a folding map; title lightly foxed; original dark green cloth; light wear to extremities. First edition. ‘It is unnecessary to say that I have not visited all the head-waters of the Amazon. No one unaided man could do that; but I may, without boast, say that I have seen as much of this mighty river as any one unaided, and unrecognized, man could see. It is not my intention to give a continuous narrative of my experiences; but rather a connected description of the river, based on these experiences’ (p. 10).
