Renowned for its detailed historical introduction by Firminger, the Fifth report is still regarded as an important source of information on late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century revenue and judicial administration in India. The edition reprinted here was further enhanced by the addition of a glossary of oriental terms compiled by the orientalist, Charles Wilkins.
