""I drammi successivi al 1924 , in cui la rievocazione della grecità si risolve in una elegante e civettuola coreografia da balletto, un po' influenzata nel gusto dagli scenari metafisici di De Chirico. Sono anni in cui si tenta, anche da parte di autori come Gide e Girardoux, l'innesto della riflessione moderna sul ceppo del mito antico, e Cocteau si proporrà di condurre un'indagine penetrante e maliziosa, che scardini l'innocenza del mito. Nell'opera drammatica "Orphée", Orfeo ed Euridice sono da lui ridotti a due sposi moderni , che una vita comune, intessuta di malignità e piccole discordie quotidiane, tormenta e immiserisce..." (Mondadori 1959: vol. I pag. 837). La pièce fu rappresentata per la prima volta a Parigi, Théâtre des Arts, il 17 giugno 1926. Esemplare nella tiratura ordinaria, non numerata. Menzione fittizia di sesta edizione in copertina. Prima edizione.
