Nel mirare la bellezza della natura, l'artista è colpito dalla tristezza che involge tutte le cose: la stessa tranquillità indulge agli studi prediletti, ma eccita una meditazione malinconica e vaporosa. Il cuore che è contento di gioire nel creato trova nel contrasto della mente che ben conosce il mondo l'ostacolo a ogni sua effusione: e si fa solitario in una propria incancellabile prova di dolore. (...) Gli stessi crepuscolari si riferiranno al Guérin come a una fondamentale esperienza poetica" (Carlo Cordié, in Bompiani 1959: vol. II pag. 541). Tiratura di 53 esemplari su "vélin Rives bleu".
