Buffalo, NY Phinney & Co. 1857 192 pp. Illustrated with twenty-four unpaginated wood engravings, with captions. Includes frontispiece "Moses receiving the Law," which has been hand-colored. Adomeit records fourteen copies. In tan cloth with blind-stamped decorations on covers and green and gold cathedral design on spine, as well as "Bible" in gold on spine. Adomeit notes that the cloth binding and cathedral design are not uniform to all copies of this edition; some copies, consistent with earlier editions, are bound in brown leather and lack the cathedral design. This copy contains an extra front endpaper, watermarked. Paste-downs torn at hinges, also a tear in leaf with "Joshua" engraving and one page with clipped margin but no text loss. Dimensions a bit larger than those recorded in Adomeit. A near fine copy. (Adomeit A116). (2 1/8 by 1 7/8; 54x42mm.). (Thumb Bible).
