Fine Programme, in French, for the Gala Evening

on the occasion of the visit to Paris of the Emperor (Nicholas II) and Empress of Russia, with a  striking lithographed cover  by  Henri Gervex  (1852-1929), of Sigurd and Brünnhilde, beginning with the Russian National anthem, and including the 2nd Act of M.E. Reyer’s opera ‘Sigurd’, Massenet’s ‘Thaïs’, an extract from Widor’s ballet ‘La Korrigane’, with the names of the dancers, and continuing with shorter pieces by French and Russian Composers, the programme 1 side 12” x 9¾” finely lettered and engraved, Paris, 6th October 1896, The couple arrived by overnight train from Cherbourg and were driven first to the Russian Embassy and Russian Church, then to the Elysée. In the afternoon they visited the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, and ended the day with a Gala performance at the Opéra.
