Illustrations in the text by Augustus Hoppin. ¶ Howells’ first novel and his first attempt at an extended work of realistic fiction, though by the title it is often thought that this must surely be a work of romance. It is indeed about a honeymoon, but it concentrates on the awkwardness and pitfalls which can occur to a just-married couple who have never spent much time away from their families. During Howells’ lifetime Their Wedding Journey was his most often reprinted work. ¶ Contemporary inscription on the front free endpaper. Cloth slightly worn; nice, bright copy.
