Barneveld (1747-1826), an apothecary in Amsterdam and Hattem, wrote several books on electricity and chemistry. This work describes fifty case histories in which the author utilized electricity to treat a variety of illnesses including diseases of the joints, fevers, nervous diseases, etc. Barneveld provides accounts of the electrical machines which he used for his treatments and discusses the researches of Bertholon, Haller, Mauduyt de la Varenne, and John Cuthbertson.
